The Language Exchange Lounge is a meeting to practice speaking English and Japanese. It could be for any language but that’s what we focus on at MeetsMore.
How does it work?
3 times a week, we meet for 30 minutes to exchange on many topics.
We speak 5 minutes in English and then 5 minutes in Japanese. Like it everybody has a chance to speak even if he isn’t very fluent in one of those languages.
Will I really improve?
Yes. It’s by practicing that you get better at things and the Language Exchange Lounge is here to give you a lot of practice!
It’s by first crawling, then standing and finally putting a foot in front of the other that a child learns how to walk. And he will fall A LOT before succeeding.
Talking a foreign language works the same way, we have to take baby-steps and fail a lot until we make it!
Most of all we are all learning and make mistakes. But we encourage each-other to keep trying!
Testimonies
[Cyril] I have the feeling that my Japanese has gotten more fluent since I joined the LEL! On top of that, it is for me a rare occasion to talk with my colleagues about something else than work. It really widens my horizon!
[Sakai] I understood the importance of speaking. I study, when it comes time to actually speak, nothing comes to mind. However, I think that's a good thing because it motivates me to study more.
[Xavier] It so nice to have a space where you can ask any question that you might have regarding language or culture. Last time talking about sayings that we can have in french / japanese / english was a really cool thing to do. Even when you can’t speak Japanese at all (like me) it’s nice to come !
How to organize the community?
We have a Slack channel where we record audio messages to practice speaking 🎤 & stay updated with the latest LEL news.
